The Street Department

The Street Department is a maintenance department within the City of Franklin Public Works Department.  The Street Department is responsible for a large portion of the maintenance that is performed in the city. Our operating hours are:  Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

The Street Department is divided into five divisions:

  • Administration
  • Maintenance
  • Traffic
  • Stormwater
  • Fleet

These five divisions help to keep our city streets paved, the leaves out of the storm drains, and our traffic signals functioning.  The Street Department also monitors the construction of new stormwater and roadway infrastructure around the city as well as making sure our historic downtown is decorated for every seasonal change, holiday, and special event.  In addition, the Street Department maintains most of the vehicles and equipment within the City Fleet, keeps our traffic signage in good condition, clears our major arterial roads of snow and ice during storm events, keeps our Right-of-Way areas neatly maintained, and assists other departments as needed with emergency events or special events set-up, take-down, and cleanup.

We are a busy department but we love to interact with the public.  If you happen to see a Street Department worker along the side of the road doing a great job, give them a friendly wave or a thumbs up, they will certainly appreciate it.
