The Battle of Franklin took place on November 30, 1864, and was one of the last battles of the Civil War. That morning, the U.S. Army dug in to form an earthen mound that surrounded Franklin before the late afternoon assault by the Confederates from the south.
The City is installing Limestone markers in ten locations along the trench line to help locals and visitors understand how much area the battle enveloped around Downtown Franklin and understand the changes in development that has taken place since.
This is a project supported by the Civil War Historical Commission and the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
