In 2014, as a part of the SR-96W and Boyd Mill Avenue/Carlisle Lane Intersection Improvements Project, a multi-use path was constructed on the north side of SR-96W, from just west of Carlisle Lane to Vintage Grove Lane.  In 2016, the City completed the extension of the multi-use trail from Vintage Grove Lane to Vera Valley Drive.  Also, in 2016 the City of Franklin received a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant for $800,000 in federal funds to extend the multi-use trail toward downtown Franklin.  Because this initial grant was only for a portion of the project cost, TDOT staff encouraged the City to submit another grant application for additional funding.  Upon receiving the initial grant, the City began preliminary design of the project in its entirety, from Vera Valley Drive to 5TH Avenue North.  In July 2017, the City received an additional TAP grant for $1,000,000 in federal funds.  The multi-use trail will be concrete and 10 – 12 feet in width, depending upon physical constraints.  The trail will be designed to accommodate all users and will be compliant with all current ADA standards and guidelines.
