Franklin Fourth of July Festivities Canceled
Franklin,TN - Like many communities, both nearby and across the nation, the City of Franklin has made the difficult decision to cancel its Fourth of July events.
Franklin’s Fourth of July festivities consists of “Franklin on the Fourth”, a day-long festival on the Square coordinated by the Franklin Lions Club, and the Franklin Fireworks, an evening concert at the Park at Harlinsdale Farm followed by the City’s fireworks display.
“It was a very difficult decision to cancel our Fourth of July events,” stated City Administrator Eric Stuckey. “However, with the current guidelines for physical distancing and large gatherings, we feel canceling is the best decision to make at this time.” Guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that COVID-19 is spread mainly through close contact from person-to-person and urges at least six (6) feet of separation. With these events drawing more than 10,000 attendees, it would be difficult to practice social distancing.
Stuckey continued, “We want to thank the Franklin Lions Club, Friends of Franklin Parks, and WAKM AM-950 for their partnership with the City of Franklin over the years and look forward to working with them on a bigger and better celebration in 2021.”
