Firefighters Quickly Extinguish Early Afternoon Halloween House Fire

Firefighters Bring Five Pets to Safety

Post Date:10/31/2019 4:18 PM

Hill Estates FireFranklin, TN - A man and his five pets are safe following an early afternoon Halloween house fire in the Hill Estates subdivision.

The Franklin Fire Department was dispatched to the single story home on Maple Drive at 1:29 PM, after a tenant returned home and discovered fire in a bedroom.  He tried to extinguish the fire, was overcome by smoke, and exited the home.  He was unable to get his three dogs and two birds out.

Firefighters arrived on scene in less than five minutes, quickly extinguished the fire, and brought the pets to safety.

Fire Marshal Andy King said the fire appeared to have started due to combustible items placed too close to a wall heater.

King said there were no batteries in either of the two smoke alarms found in the home.  “We’re glad the fire didn’t occur at night,” said King.  “It could have been a much more tragic outcome.”

King estimated the damage at $10,000 to the property, valued at $150,000.  The American Red Cross is assisting the two occupants of the home.

If you are in need of smoke alarms, please contact the Franklin Fire Department at 615-791-3270.
