Duplex Fire Ruled Accidental

Post Date:01/24/2019 1:52 PM

Meredith Place DuplexFranklin, TN – The cause of a fire that damaged a duplex on Wednesday evening has been ruled accidental, according to Franklin Fire Investigator Lt. Bill Almon.

The Franklin Fire Department was dispatched to the two-story, brick rental property on Meredith Place just after 7 p.m. on January 23, 2019.

Firefighters were called by a resident who smelled smoke upon entering the home.  They arrived to find light smoke inside, with heavier smoke conditions in an upstairs bedroom.  With the help of a thermal imaging camera, they discovered and extinguished a fire burning inside the wall cavity of that bedroom.

Almon said that telephone work had been done in that room earlier in the day.  He estimated damage at $35,000.  He said the family of two that lived in the unit where the fire originated will be temporarily displaced while repairs are completed.  The adjoining unit was not damaged.
