Franklin, TN – Children in grades K–8 are invited to design a new fire helmet shield for a very special member of the Franklin Fire Department – Sparky the Fire Dog!
In honor of Fire Prevention Week, the Franklin Fire Department is holding a contest to create a new helmet shield for Sparky that best illustrates this year’s theme: “Charge Into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.” This year’s campaign highlights the importance of safely using lithium-ion batteries, which power everyday items like phones, e-bikes, and power tools. When damaged or improperly used, these batteries can overheat, catch fire, or even explode.
The Grand Prize Winner will receive a $100 Visa gift card, and their artwork will be made into a custom fire helmet shield for the helmet worn by Sparky the Fire Dog, the department’s mascot. Sparky and his new helmet will be displayed at Franklin Fire Station 8 in Westhaven throughout the year. Additionally, nine First Place Winners (one per grade) will each receive a $50 Visa gift card. Prizes are courtesy of Atmos Energy.
Enter now through October 26, 2025. Find complete contest guidelines and a link to the entry form and helmet shield template at www.franklintn.gov/FFDcontest.
