Franklin, TN - A fan is believed to have caused a fire in a vacant home in the Boyd Mill Estates subdivision yesterday morning (Sunday, June 24, 2012).
Franklin Fire Marshal Andy King said a passerby spotted the flames and knocked on a neighbor’s door and asked them to call 911.
The Franklin Fire Department responded to the one-story, single family home at around 11:21 a.m. with three engines, two tower trucks, one rescue truck and 20 firefighters. The Franklin Police Department and Williamson EMS also responded to provide assistance.
According to King, the fire started in the crawl space and was possibly caused by a small ventilation fan used to control humidity. He said the fire appears to be accidental.
King said the fire extended from the crawl space vent to the home’s vinyl siding and then into the attic.
The house had been recently vacated and listed for sale at $196,000. King estimated the damage at $50,000.
