About the Mayor
John Schroer was sworn in as Franklin’s 30th Mayor on November 12, 2007. Prior to being elected Mayor, he was a member of the board of the Franklin Special School District for thirteen years, serving as Chairman of the School Board for eleven years. During his tenure on the School Board he served on the Board of the Tennessee School Board Association. He was Treasurer for two years and was Vice President when he resigned to become Mayor.
As Mayor of Franklin, he has continued his involvement in regional and state issues. Mayor Schroer is a member of the Middle Tennessee Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and serves on its executive committee. He is a member of the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) and is starting his second year as treasurer of the RTA. Mayor Schroer is also a member of the Middle Tennessee Mayor’s Caucus and serves on its executive committee.
Born in Evansville, Indiana, Mayor Schroer received his bachelor’s degree in business from Indiana University. Upon graduation, he moved to the Franklin area where he received an MBA from the University of Tennessee’s Nashville campus. Schroer spent ten years in the commercial real estate financing business before he started a real estate development business. Schroer is currently President of Southland Management and Development Company.
John and his wife Marianne are members of Franklin First United Methodist Church, where he serves as Chairman of the Site Selection and Building Committee. He is a past board member of Williamson County United Way and a founding board member of Franklin Tomorrow.
