In response to regional drought conditions, the City of Franklin is asking customers to voluntarily conserve water, per the City’s Drought Management Plan. The plan, which outlines a course of action to be taken under various drought conditions, was approved by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
The City’s rain gauge has registered only 0.6 inches of rain for the month of June. The average for the month of June, according to The Weather Channel, is 3.94 inches. Drought conditions across Tennessee are resulting in conservation measures being employed by water providers throughout Middle Tennessee. Please check with your water provider regarding the current status of conservation measures and restrictions.
The City of Franklin strongly encourages voluntary restrictions by all water consumers within the City of Franklin water distribution system. The goal of voluntary conservation measures is to achieve a reduction in water demands. In order to achieve this goal it will take the cooperation of all customers. To help avoid mandatory restrictions, please decrease water consumption by reducing or eliminating the following uses:
- Washing sidewalks, driveways, and other exterior paved areas except by the City of Franklin in the interest of public safety.
- Filling swimming pools.
- Noncommercial washing of vehicles and boats.
- Any use from a fire hydrant other than to fight fires and ensure adequate water quality in the distribution system.
- Watering landscaped or grass areas. If landscaping requires watering, please do so between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. using handheld devices.
- Watering golf courses.
- Dust control or compaction during construction.
