Description
In 2014, the City started the design of the SR-96 Murfreesboro Road) Sidewalk project between Pinkerton Park and Mack Hatcher Parkway.  Approximately 1,500 feet of sidewalk already exists along the corridor, leaving about 4,000 feet of sidewalk to be constructed as a part of this project.  Several public meetings we held to discuss the design of the project.  Ultimately, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) chose a 5-foot sidewalk with open-ditch drainage.  Crosswalks and ADA-compliant ramps will be installed at all side street crossings.  Traffic signal accommodations (i.e. push buttons, pedestrian signal heads, etc.) will be incorporated at Eddy Lane and Ralston Lane.  The only new crossing of SR-96 (Murfreesboro Road) will be at the traffic signal at Eddy Lane/Sturbridge Drive.

The City received and opened bids for the construction of this project on May 25, 2017.  A contract with Civil Constructors, LLC for the construction of this project was approved by the BOMA on June 13, 2017.  A Notice to Proceed with construction work was issued with an effective date of August 14, 2017.  The contractor is working to complete the project by the end of 2017.
