Farm worker injured in brush fire that destroys barn, burns several acres

10-19-2016_Barn_fire_2Williamson County, TN – A worker was injured and a barn was destroyed in a brush fire this afternoon that also burned several acres of the Williamson County farm located on the corner of Franklin Road and Mack Hatcher Parkway.

 The Franklin Fire Department was dispatched at 3:13 p.m. to the 110-acre farm.  They responded along with numerous other agencies, including the Williamson County Rescue Squad, Brentwood Fire and Rescue, Williamson Emergency Management Agency, the Franklin Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies, arriving on scene at 3:18 p.m.

According to Franklin fire and police investigators, a worker was burning a brush pile that got out of control due to dry and windy conditions.  The blaze spread rapidly to a nearby tractor and barn, destroying both.  It also spread quickly to the surrounding field and wooded hillside, burning several acres.

The worker was injured while attempting to fight the fire, and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 50-year old barn, which was approximately 2,000 square feet, was a total loss.
