House fire destroys Hill Estates home

Franklin Firefighters encounter flashover

Post Date:12/14/2009 5:00 AM

Franklin, TN – Six people are homeless after fire destroyed their Hill Estates home on Saturday just before midnight.

The Franklin Fire Department was called at 11:41 p.m. on Dec. 12 to the fire at 207 Walnut Dr. Six adults escaped unharmed.

Upon entry Franklin Firefighters encountered a flashover, according to Fire Marshal Andy King, which occurs when the heat is so intense that it causes everything in a space to ignite simultaneously. No firefighters were injured.

The blaze started in a rear bedroom of the one-story, 1500-square foot home. The house was not equipped with residential fire sprinklers. However it was equipped with working smoke alarms, which did respond, according to the residents. Damage is estimated between $70,000-$80,000, said King.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
